The Army microwave communications team is responsible for ensuring that all the different microwave and non-microwave communications equipment is in top operating order. The Army has a continuing need for specialists that are trained in communications and Microwave systems. You will learn how to maintain, operate, and install Army state of the Art Microwave equipment and communications Systems.
You will learn skills in preventative procedures and maintenance, communication procedures and policies, and microwave communications procedures. Other duties you may be required to perform as a Army Microwave Communications specialist include installing circuit, link and system equipment, and maintaining station logs, reports and records. Some of the duties that you may have as a maintainer and communications microwave system installer may include restoring monitoring and orienting microwave telecommunications trunk groups, circuits and systems. Microwave Installers and Communications Maintainers are tasked with multiplexing, installing communications systems, and locating and installing antennas and communications security gear. The United States Army looks to their personnel to perform both upkeep, and the efficient and functional operations of their communications gear. Many people become interested in working in the US Army Communications field because of the ability after serving in the Army to obtain well paying jobs in the Civilian Sector. If you have an interest in electromechanical equipment, or experience with electronic, electrical or mechanical equipment this may be one type of career that could be ideally suited to you. This job specialty will give you potential apprenticeship credit for some specialties within this job classification. You will use wiring techniques and line installation methods, electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to examine and learn about microwave and electrical communication systems. You will receive training in positioning microwave communications control and technical microwave equipment, and installing and maintaining various microwave telecommunications equipment and power generators.

For Servicemembers that are interested, training starts with Boot camp. After boot camp training, afterwards, you will attend Individual Advanced training for 26 weeks, where you will study in simulated combat training and in the classroom. This will provide you with the necessary training to serve as a skilled Microwave Military Communications Specialists.
