The US Military offers a comprehensive medical benefit support plan, through a program called TriCare. It is a health plan that covers all Servicemembers and Veterans that are enrolled. It consists of three different plans, and replaces the old CHAMPUS program that used to be in effects. Congress met in 1996 and voted for the Veterans HCER Act of 1996, which is the Veterans Health Care Act, and it gives a medical package of benefits, both for active duty military Servicemembers currently serving and for Veterans who have completed their service or retired.
The Veterans Administration puts a high priority on making sure that Veterans are treated fairly and that Veterans are satisfied with their service and care quality. Their goal is to make sure it is consistent, found at every location available, and that it is of excellent quality throughout each and every program. Military TriCare Benefits- The United States Government is concerned that as members of the military that Servicemembers and their families are given high quality and complete medical care. The Congress has worked with the Veterans Administration to define what health care for military Servicemembers consists of, and it is defined by three basic types of health care needs: Basic Health Care-The definition of Basic health care is outpatient medical treatment, surgery where needed in emergency situations, impatient medical and surgical care, mental health support care, impatient hospital mental health care. The basic care level of mental health care can also include some types of outpatient and inpatient substance abuse care.
Emergency Health Care-This is defined as Emergency Care at Veterans Hospital facilities. Depending on the different situations and circumstances, Emergency care that is given at non-Veterans hospital facilities is sometimes covered. Prescription Drugs- This is simply medication and drugs that are given for a variety of medical conditions and are substances that are prescribed by a physician, doctor or health professional. This includes both prescription drugs, and over the counter drugs that are taken on the advice of a primary care physician.
Preventative Care- This is different care that is designed to prevent disease. Education on nutrition, diet, and health related issues, and periodic and regularly scheduled physical and health exams are examples of preventative care.
