General John Kelly Coordinates Leadership Meeting
Leaders from around the Anbar Province and different Iraqi Tribal Leaders met and discussed a number of topics at a leadership conference on March 25th.
MNF West General John F. Kelly brought together leaders from the Coalition, local Iraqi Tribes, and other Anbar Province Iraqi leaders in a meeting designed to raise many issues of concern to the area.
General Kelly and his staff invited more than 20 key local leaders, including members of the Iraqi Security Force. The leaders met together over several days, and talked about how the state of affairs in the Anbar province has gotten better, but also where there needed to be additional changes.
The Conference discussed the posture and response of the Iraqi Security Force, and the different ways that it was enjoying increased success and independence. Ways of helping the ISF combat terrorism, as well as increasing support and funding for key Iraqi Security Force needs were discussed. Members of the Coalition listened for ways that the United States and Coalition Partners could help as things transition to Iraqi led initiatives and the lessening of Coalition control in key areas.

Many of the leaders had not participated in a leadership conference before, so it was a new experience. Where some of the leaders appeared wary at first, soon it was apparent that bringing everyone together was a positive first step in learning to work together to solve regional problems.
