The Associated Press is reporting that the DOD is actively preparing a plan that will lift the ban on transgender recruiting.
Following the announcement, expected in the next few weeks, there will be a period of six months for the DOD to determine the impact on the military. Although, there will be no transgender recruiting during this time.
However, a few key questions remain. For example, will this put an end to male vs female recruiting or quotas? Will this ban eliminate physical requirements for selected jobs in the Army, Navy, Marines, National Guard and the Air Force? Will special forces be required to compromise minimum physical requirements?
The larger question will be if the taxpayers will be paying for transgender operations and the accompanying hormone therapy?
Many questions with long term benefits and consequences remain uncertain.
One thing is for certain. The worlds leading military force is now a hotbed for politics as ever.
