Navy Enlisted Active Duty Jobs

There are a number of different Navy Active Duty enlisted jobs. Two of them that are fairly popular are the Gunners Mate and Storekeeper ratings. Both are jobs that are important and vital in the Navy and its effective operations, and both carry a lot of responsibility. Both of them also have a fairly long history of service in the Navy.

Storekeeper
Working in the US Navy as a storekeeper is a job that entails a lot of different responsibilities. You will be responsible for ordering specific supplies and general stores, and ordering different supplies for your station or ship. A Navy storekeeper is a lot like a clerk, but it is a position that is so much more. A storekeeper uses both paper and electronic systems to order, track and fill supplies. You work to keep different types of records in inventory, budgeting, accounting, warehousing, transportation in a timely and accurate fashion. Storekeepers, or SK?s are important members of the Navy team that work in implementing and planning Navy support missions. Duties that the Navy Storekeeper are responsible for; stocking and ordering supplies and spare parts, dealing with ordering and storage of Haz-Mat management, hazardous materials and controls, working with air cargo specialists supervising loading and unloading of cargo, vehicles, ships, aircraft, and equipment, using a variety of computer systems to account for and record all types of Navy Supplies, and distribution and reception of goods including food, clothing, personal supplies and other materials.

Gunners Mate.
Gunners Mate?s work to deal with weapons, weapons magazines, and sometimes even guided missile systems. The job of Gunners Mate is a detailed one, requiring good manual dexterity and dealing with different types of manual tools. Gunners Mates are responsible for the operation and maintenance of handguns, weapons, small arms, gun mounts, and weapons of different types and scope. The Navy mechanical weapon jack of all trades in dealing with equipment and weapons that are designed to use in the Navy Arsenal.

Gunners mates works to supply weapons, ordinance, explosives, and ammunition and the calibration and testing of weapons systems. Gunners mates have to have normal hearing, depth perception and hearing, and be able to qualify for a security clearance of Top Secret. The Navy Gunners mate also works to train members of Navy Crews in Weapons maintenance and usage.

    I have been in touch with a recruiter here in Visalia, CA. I have done my asvab and started getting into shape like they told me to, just to find out that there are no open active duty positions available for the Navy. When will there be openings and how can I ensure I am chosen?
