Security Forces Delivers Athletic Gear To Safwan School
Students and Girl Scouts from Cornwall, New York recently worked together to bring athletic equipment and small gifts of supplies to the children of Iraq. Working with the Airmen of the 887th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron dozens of small packages of supplies were delivered to students at Safwan School. Safwan School is situated near Umm Qasr in Iraq.
The supplies included crayons, pencils, coloring books, paper and pens, as well as more than a dozen soccer balls. Most of the items were collected and donated by Troop 76 of the Girl Scouts of America, from Cornwall, NY.
“We love to be able to take a moment from our normal patrols to interact and meet with the people in this way,” stated Staff Sergeant Matt Hamblen. Sgt. Hamblen is an 887th ESFS squad leader, and participated in the school supplies and athletic equipment giveaway. Sgt. Hamblen talked with the school headmaster, and delivered the supplies.
Sgt. Hamblen talked about how these particular supplies were gathered and donated by American Children, who wish to see the children in Iraq, be successful and happy. As he talked to the headmaster Sgt Hamblen spoke about how the American public at large all wants to see them in Iraqi be successful.
The Province of Al Basra has become the most recent province to be returned to government by the Iraqi National Government. It is the ninth in a series of provinces in Iraq that are slowly being returned to government by their own people.
