Communications is a central and important part of the Army, and serving as an Army Nodal Network Systems Specialist is an exciting and challenging job. Nodal Network System Operators and Maintainers are key personnel that are responsible for maintaining the communications networks and lines of contact, and keeping them up and running. These specialists maintain, operate, repair and use the strategic and tactical nodal communication systems.
Some of the duties that Nodel Network Systems Specialists perform are: Using software tools and computers to perform network system operations, to utilize equipment and system error codes to detect and correct system faults, to operate, maintain and install preventative maintenance services and checks, and perform unit maintenance and internal communication system COMSEC device operations.
Working, as a Nodel Army Communications System specialist is a detailed and technical field, this field requires a great deal of additional training. Because of the constant changing state of the art in communications this is a field that constantly changes, and requires a wiliness to stay on top of the latest in communications technology. Job training for Nodel Communications specialist requires Army Basic Combat Training and then additional technical training. After basic training of nine weeks, an additional training period of 39 weeks is necessary to become proficient as a Nodel Network Systems expert. You will study in simulated combat situations in the Field, and also in the classroom.

You will learn about basic electronics theory, electronics switching systems and WAN and WLAN network systems, operation, installing and maintaining primary telephone exchange equipment, and various IP and Internet based video, audio, and network systems, switches and protocols. The Army will train you to function as part of an Army communications repair team, and you will be tasked to go into the field as necessary to repair and troubleshoot Army Communications systems. You will have an opportunity to travel, and you may literally be put into service at any location where the Army serves.
Training in this field will enable you to be employed in a large variety of civilian jobs in the Telecommunications and Internet Services field. You may work as a civilian telephone or Internet Provider repairman or installer, or work in a regional switching office. This is a highly technical and fast paced field that will be ideal for a person who is technically savvy and good at science and mathematics.
