Forward Operating Base Garry Owen, Iraq- Recently, Soldiers from the U.S. 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division worked to assist the members of the community and the citizens of Amarah in Operation Goodwill.
Their assistance joined members of the local Iraqi Police from nearby Al Hussein Station, as well as members from the Iraq Security Forces.
Together with members of the U.S. 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment that were assigned to overwatch security, the joint force visited different farms and homes in the region, passing out food, water, toys and supplies to the members of the Amarah community.
?We are working to do different missions, to coordinate between our forces and the Iraqi Forces,? said Sergeant Robert Andrews. ?Its all about hearts and minds now, the times here in Iraq are changing.
The continued efforts and cooperative spirit has made a difference, where the people were often sullen and uncooperative a couple of years ago they now see their own forces, and by extension U.S. Forces as their friends and assistants, and they greet the soldiers with laughter and smiles.
This is a big change from the reception that was often received before. As the U.S. Forces get ready for eventual withdrawal from Iraq, they will continue with their humanitarian efforts with Iraqi forces.
