Salhiya District Receives Coalition School Supplies And Support
Children in the Salihiya district of Baghdad had a lot to celebrate when the members of the MNF Baghdad division soldiers arrived. The soldiers arrived to give out school supplies and to hand out materials to assist with the comi9ng years.
The soldiers from the 18th MP Brigade worked to help deliver different school supplies to the local schools, and to the local orphanage. Soldiers also participated from the 42nd Field Artillery and brought in the trucks bearing the school supplies.
Operation Iraqi Children began first in 2003, and was founded by actors Gary Sinise and Laura Hillenbrand. It was first designed to distribute school supplies to different groups of children in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Dijibouti.
It was Operation Iraqi Children that provided the supplies, and the soldiers worked hard to give out supplies and good cheer, and the children and their families were very receptive to the effort.
The Iraqi Police and the Coalition soldiers hand out more than 3000 school supply kits that are donated to the children of Baghdad every year. The kits feature notebook paper, composition books, colored pencils, large eraser, pencil sharpeners, rulers, and scissors.
The kits have been a success with the children, and they have given the coalition a method of interacting and talking at length with members from the community.
