Press Secretary Morrell Speaks At News Conferences
The overall situation in Iraq has become a very public issue, and one that has taken the public and the military by surprise in some ways. Many people did not think that the surge that started last year would have a positive effect, but the surge has been very successful.
The Pentagon has spoken out in the past, and recently a spokesman from the Pentagon addressed the Press corps. Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell spoke to a news conference on July 23rd, and talked about the overall success of the surge and how much the military is pleased with how things are progressing in Iraq.
The surge policy was announced in late 2006, and implemented in 2007, and it sent additional brigades of soldiers to Iraq that gave the country a chance to get on the winning side in the overall fight against terror and insurgency.
Iraq has been able to focus on improvements, and rebuilding, and the security has been slowly taken over by the members of the Iraqi Security Forces. The Coalition has provided supplies, training, equipment and overall guidance as the Iraqi Security Forces have been able to assume more and more of the security ability.

Now that the Surge has been successful, many people are rushing to judgment and wanting to have the troops removed prematurely. But what many people do not realize is that all of the troops in the surge have now left Iraq, and the other Coalition troops will eventually leave too.
