Often people will wonder what makes young people enlist in the Military today.
Well, there are a variety of reasons, some a little off the wall, while others are pretty much what you would expect. As the economic times get harder it is easier to find people that want to have positions that will not suffer layoffs and other issues.
Some of the reasons that active duty military talk about for why they enlisted include:
Career- People can obtain job training and get the necessary skills to continue into civilian life. This is vital because in a worsening economy if you have marketable skills you will have a job when at times others will not.
Family Tradition- Many people have had fathers, mothers, brothers and others in their family that have served in the Military. And, when they come of age, it is looked as an issue of family pride. In some cases military service can go back for generations and be a strong motivating factor for a young person to enlist.

Pride- Some people join up because they believe it will teach them discipline, self confidence and pride. Often it does, too, in spite of their best efforts. The military is an organization that will teach a person teamwork and skills if they are given a chance.
