There are different scenarios in which the national and international press might be interested in what is going on inside of the United States Coast Guard. To make sure that the information being presented to the public is accurate and paints the US Coast Guard in the best light it is necessary to have trained professionals handling every point of contact with the press and the community as a whole.
What You Will Do
You will be in charge of staying abreast of all the different incidents, presentations and upcoming events which might be newsworthy. You will be in charge of issuing press releases as well as providing the proper information for contacts to the journalist community at large. You will also be in charge of helping with such things as internet designs and creating the kinds of pamphlets which will be used to inform people about the US Coast Guard and what is happening that they might be interested in.

Get the Training
You will go through a 12 week course at the Ft. Meade, MD station. Here you will go through intensive training so that you will be able to know exactly what is expected of you at any given time. You will also receive on the job training so that you will understand the best way to present information to the public through all of the different forms of media including the internet.
