Abandoned Carnival Yields New Life As City Park
The US Army has been working to help rebuild and restore a number of different facilities inside Iraq, and one of them has been the creation of a new city park in Baghdad. In the Adhamiyah region, there is a former park called Dover Park.
It was the site of a former Carnival that went out of business in the late 1990s. It sat abandoned for the last ten years, and no one was the wiser.
Then the coalition decided to rebuild the park and found that there was different elements from the Carnival that would be possible to use in the rebuilt park. The local Iraqi government is overjoyed because they had not ever had a park and the idea is even for them.
The families and the citizens have been enthusiastic about the park, and it has been getting heavy usage. Everyone admires the park, and it is fast becoming a place where families go to relax, as well as a place that people can go on their lunch hour to enjoy a relaxing afternoon.
The coalition has a number of different plans to open additional parks in the Baghdad region, as well as in other regions across Iraq.
