Service in the United States Navy Reserve has a number of different benefits associated with it, and they are ones that are very lucrative for most people. Service in the reserves is very upbeat in some different ways that many people do not know about. For example, serving on your drill weekend you are compensated at the rate of 4 days of active duty pay for your 2 days of weekend drill. If you serve additional days each month then you paid at the normal active duty pay rate for your rating and rank. When you serve your annual two weeks of active duty pay, you are compensated at the same rate as active duty soldiers with the same time in rank and rating.
You can accumulate seniority and time in service in the military Reserves just as you do on active duty. The pay and allowance increases that you receive for Active duty pay are also received by personnel serving in the Reserves. Serving in the Reserves you will receive the same pay and allowance increases that active duty members enjoy. Part of the positive advantage in serving in the United States Reserves is that you accumulate time in service at the same rate as active duty Servicemembers. If you later serve on Active duty you benefit from the date of service at the same rate as people who are regular active duty personnel.
Serving as a Navy Reservist you receive the same types of compensation when you serve on Active duty as other normal active duty Servicemembers, at the same time of service, rank and rating. Re enlistment bonuses also can apply for Navy reservists if you are serving at a rating that is needed or undermanned according to Navy Standards. You accumulate Navy retirement points at a reduced rate as a reservist, but you still accumulate points. As a Reservist you qualify for the Reserve Montgomery GI Bill. Reserve Benefits and MGIB educational benefits allow the Servicemember to attend college, technical school or other training, and to receive funding to do so. If you are activated and mobilized for 120 days or more you qualify for Active duty Tuition Assistance, each of the five services has a version of this program.
There are other hidden benefits that are available for a member of the United States Navy Reserve. You can shop on base during your Reserve weekend at the PX or base commissary, or other enlisted wholesale and retail facilities around the world that are reserved for United States Navy personnel.
