Baghdad- Acting as a result of a citizens tip, the members of the 11th Iraqi Army discovered a large weapons cache in the Sadr City District on December 29th.
The weapons and explosives were two 81 mm mortars, several blocks of C-4 explosives, four 82 mm mortars, five pounds of high explosives, and a selection of other rockets, mortars and high explosive rounds. This was seen as a very positive cache to discover, its one of the largest found in recent weeks, and is believed to be used in the past by local insurgents that have since moved on.
Lieutenant Colonel Neil Harper is the spokesman in the region for the MNF- Baghdad and coalition troops, and he said; ?Working together with the coalition forces, the fine members of the Iraqi Security Force and the Iraq Army are successfully denying criminals and terrorist insurgents the ability to stockpile different weapons.?
?These are the weapons that have been used against American and Iraqi Forces in the past, and that have caused a lot of property damage, as well as hurting innocent civilians,? stated Colonel Harper.
?We are very pleased with the ability and enthusiasm of the Iraqi Security Forces, they are maintaining and providing a very secure environment for their civilians and for the community at large,? said Colonel Harper.
