The Dam Bridge that is located at Sammara reopened on Thursday evening. This follows about eight months where the bridge, and dam were not in use, or available to help the surrounding area or community.
With the reopening of the Bridge, the access to surrounding markets and goods and services is restored. There was a joint ribbon cutting ceremony that occurred attended by local, police, military and Salahahdin officials.
Governor Hamad Hamoud Shekti, Police Major General Hammed Nams Yassem, and Deputy Governor Abdullah Hussein Mohammed all were in attendance. They are officials with the local Salahahdin province. Representing the City of Samarra was Major General Rashid Flayee Mohammed and Mayor Ahmed Abass.
Local Coalition Samarra Force Commander Captain Kurtzman said “ This opening and reopening of the dam and bridge is a wonderful sign, both for freedom and improved security in the lives of Samarra citizens,”. Captain Kurtzman is Commander of C Company, 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division.
After the bridge was opened for traffic, the crowd and supporters went across and traveled to the checkpoint in the north. The checkpoint works together with the village of Berm, and helps provided needed security and protection for citizens of the region. Hamad himself participated in the checkpoint, greeting and interviewing a couple of vehicles while touring the checkpoint.
“The fact that the province governor and deputy, and other officials here today shows our citizens that we are working to make their lives better,” said Hamad.
