Congress Approves Generals To Assigned Posts
There has been a tremendous change in Iraq over the last couple of years. The security situation has leveled out, and while it is still dangerous at times, for the most part there is a sense and an evident calm and security present on the streets of Iraq that has not been there before.
Much of the success has been because of the involvement, training and assistance of the coalition. The coalition has actively helped the Iraqi people rebuild their land. And because of this, it is now safe for the citizens of Iraq to go about their business.
The leader of the surge in Iraq, since it?s beginning last year has been Army General David H. Petraeus. He is a four star general and has been the commander of Multi National forces- Iraq.
Recently, the United States Senate voted to promote General Petraeus. He is a four star general, and will serve as the United States Army Central Command, or CENTCOM, Commander, which is charged with the territory of Pakistan to Egypt, and, from Russia to the Saudi Arabian peninsula. He will now oversee both of the conflicts, the War in Afghanistan and the War in Iraq.
As the new CENTCOM leader he will take his post in the first part of August.
