Karbala Meeting Held To Discuss Local Economy
Karbala,Iraq– Local Members of the Iraqi community, Sheiks, Council Members and others met with Coalition Leaders to discuss the local Economy.
The situation regarding security in the entire Karbala region is slowly being improved. The fighting and daily battles have ceased, and the local citizens are starting to take pride in their community, and join together to reclaim their community from the Al Qaeda terrorists and other insurgent forces. It is a testimony to how much the surge has improved things, and that overall the conditions are continuing to improve.
“I do not have to worry about visiting the region of Karbala often because things are secure here,” said Brigadier General Edward Cardon. General Cardon is the MNF Deputy Commander for Support. “The overall safety and situation has greatly improved, it is obvious that the overall public is taking pride and responsibility in their community,” said General Cardon.
With the greatly improved local conditions, business owners are eager to get things moving. Efforts with micro grants, and other assistance from ePRT teams have created an air of optimism and of positive momentum.

The region of Karbala has a number of resources, including a lot of agricultural resources that some areas in Iraq do not have access to. There are a number of poultry farms and the possibility for business growth is very high.
The participants at the meeting discussed different methods to increase business including tourism. One of the most holy Shia Muslim shrines is located in Karbala, and pilgrims are a frequent visitor to the city because of this.
