Backpacks Given To Children
Walking around the different areas of Jurf as Sahkr during the day you will encounter many different groups of children either headed to school or on the way home. Until recently, you would not have seen any children with their possessions in a bag or container.
Solders identified the need for school bags and backpacks, and delivered school bags to children in the area. Troops from A Company, 7th Inf, 4th BCT, 3rd infantry recently gave out dozens of school bags and backpacks to children in the area.
These troops are based at Forward Operating Base Kalsu, and they distributed backpacks and school bags to children near the primary school Tharir in Snadeej. “We like nothing better than helping Iraqi Security force members to hand out needed supplies like this,” said Sergeant Michael Navarro. Sgt Navarro is a 2nd Platoon Company A squad Leader. As soldiers worked to distribute the school bags and backpacks, their commander walked around the area, visiting with local parents and residents.
“Everyone in the community believes that the security in this area is very good,” said Lieutenant Ryan Daly. Lieutenant Daly is the Commander for 2nd Platoon, Company A. “Events that we can participate in like this helps remind us how vital our involvement is here to protect the community, and to build trust with members of the area,” said Lieutenant Daly.
Soldiers from Company A have been in Iraq for several months, and they continue to patrol the area around Jurf as Sahkr. “Security is improving, but has to continue to get better,” said Lieutenant Daly.
