Iraqi Government Will Pay Coalition Trained Citizens
One of the most positive citizen groups of the Iraqi community has been the Sons of Iraq. They are a main reason in many areas that the Surge was successful. Not only have they aided with manning checkpoints, but they have given assistance, aid and support, and offered information to help both their own Iraqi Security Forces but also members of the Coalition.
Now the Iraqi Government will step up and begin to assume the payments that are made to the Iraqi Sons of Iraq. For the past year or more the American Taxpayer has been footing the bill, but now there will be payments to these brave community members.
The 13,000 Sons of Iraq work very hard, and their service has been a major cause of the positive actions that are being done in Iraq. They provide information, lead soldiers to caches of weapons, and have provided invaluable aid.
About 1,300 square miles of Iraq are assisted by patrols from the Sons of Iraq. The Payroll for the SOL members will be about $4 million dollars a month, and now this money will come from the Iraqi Government.
