The Military Star Card

October 8, 2012 By admin

The Military Star Card is a credit card that makes it easy for you to purchase items at any Military Exchange. Military personnel can also get a Star Card that lets them purchase retail goods and services off-base.

Advantages of the Military Star Card

The Military Star Card offers several advantages. Some of the card’s benefits include:

  • No annual fee
  • You get 10 percent off your first day’s purchases
  • A 25-day interest-free grace period to help you avoid extra expenses
  • A low interest rate (10.24 percent for most purchases)
  • An even lower rate during deployment or military activation
  • Zero APR for military clothing purchases
  • Having a Military Star Card can also give you access to limited promotions that are restricted to cardholders. These promotions cane take place in exchanges or online.

The Military Star Card, in other words, is like a typical credit card, but you get more perks and pay lower interest. Like most credit cards, you can check your statement and make payments online.

Using the Military Star Card

You can only use the traditional Military Star Card Exchange stores, including those operated by the Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Army. You can also use the card to purchase items online and from exchange catalogs.

If you want to use a military credit card to purchase goods and services off base, then you might consider the Military Stay Rewards MasterCard. This MasterCard gives you the same advantages as a regular Military Star Card, but you can use it at any store that accepts MasterCard. Plus, each purchase earns you points that you can exchange for rewards, including travel discounts and gift cards.

Applying for a Military Star Card

There are three ways to apply for a Military Star Card:

  • at a military base
  • by calling 1-877-891-7827 and applying on the phone
  • apply online by visiting the All Services Exchange Online Store

You must meet eligibility requirements to receive a Military Star Card. You can apply for a card if you are currently a member of the armed services. It doesn’t matter which branch you serve. You will need a military ID or Common Access Card (CAC) to start the application process. If you are a retired member of the military, you can also apply for a Military Star Card.

Eligibility requires more than just military service, though. You also need a healthy credit rating that shows you can handle credit responsibly. The military doesn’t want to give credit cards to people who do not know how to handle their finances. If you have a sub-prime rating, then you might not qualify for a card.

The Military Star Card is a very useful tool for active and retired military personnel. While many credit cards charge outrageous interest rates, annual fees, and late fees, the Star Card will help you avoid those extra expenses. That way, you can purchase the personal and military items that you need without going into debt.

Actually, I have a question rather than a comment. My name is Benjamin Stewart, USAF retired. I obtained a Military Star Card 6019441400361590 many years ago and haven’t used the card in over 7 years. I would like to know:

Is my card still active? If not, what do I need to do to reactivate it?

As a retiree, am I eligible for the Military Star Mastercard with a healthy credit rating of course? If so, how do I start the process?

to Benjamin Stewart – you might not have realized that your question would be posted on the website – it is, and has your credit card number posted! This is very scary, for your personal financial security! I suggest that you edit your comment to remove the number at once!!

I am beyond surprised at most of these comments. One leaves his credit card number, others can’t rub two common sense rocks together and come up with the solution of calling customer service to solve your issues.

I doubt it, as the requirements are specific, active duty because of military pay at the low end compared to civilian pay, plus they are trying to help them build credit, or retired personnel because their years of honorable service.. as a 100 % veteran myself it would be nice to receive that benefit. as far as I know we are not eligible, the only thing you can do is fill out an application and submit it.
