Top officials at the Pentagon have also declared that this is just an initial purchase of helicopters, as the US Army will use many more, all of which the purchases will be created over a ten year span. By the year 2017, the US Army hopes to have purchased well over 500 of the Bell Helicopters for their reconnaissance tactics. These helicopters are important to the Army, especially those that are in such sectors of the Army as the Airborne divisions.
The US Army operates their tactics on the ground as well as in the air, which makes for a beneficial move for the purchase of these helicopters. These helicopters are sure to be placed in good use by the US Army. The helicopters, which are currently being manufactured, will be released to the US Army in the early part of 2008. At the present time, the helicopters are being manufactured in Canada, and will be shipped to Texas for military disperse at the beginning of next year.
This is imformitive but the army is now searching for a new helicopter which is stealth. They are using the same technique as what they did for the stealth bomber and the air forces new jet. So this article is a little out dated.
the Army ‘was’ developing a stealth helicopter, but they cancelled it in 2003. It was similar to the Air Force F22 in that it had closable missile bays and other such stealth features, but they determined the helicopter was not worth its immense cost because stealth is not as vital for helicopters as it is for fixedwing aircraft. it was called the RAH66 Comanche, you can even find video games about it, but the Army dropped the stealth project.
