3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team Enjoys Festive Event
Forward Operating Base Hammer
Holiday Festive moods were very prevalent during a Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony December 8th held at Forward Base Hammer.
The tree lighting ceremony was a big hit and helped welcome the Christmas Season for troops on base. This was an effort to celebrate the holidays and Christmas Season among the Army Family and Soldiers stationed so far away from home at Christmas Time.
“The ceremony was uplifting and very motivating, I enjoyed it very much” said Staff Sgt Derrick Mears. Mears is a Non-Com. From Headquarters Co, Third Brigade Special Troops (BSTB) Battalion.
The Dickens Carolers based in Columbus, Ga. Began the ceremony via a live video satellite teleconference. The Communications section Third HBCT provided this satellite link.
The carolers had sang when troops were back home at Fort Benning, Ga., last year, and they did an excellent job again this year via the satellite link.
“I am very truly amazed, the carolers did a great job for us last year, our communications crew did a outstanding job setting this all up” said Colonel Wayne Grigsby Jr., Commander of Third HBCT.
After the singing Grigsby address the carolers and thanked them for their efforts, telling them how much there singing helped boost morale on the base. “You have no idea how much this means to us over here, to hear you sing, we greatly appreciate your efforts.” Stated Grisby.
Colonel Grisby then addressed his troops. “I am really proud, you are the best combat brigade team I think in the U.S. Army. You guys are incredible, you guys deserved this,” said Grisby, indicating the Carolers by satellite link.
