Iraqi Army Soldiers Meet With Citizen Leaders
Members of the local Adhamiya neighborhood, Iraqi Police leaders, and leadership from the Iraq Army along with Coalition leaders met for the Tribal Support Council meeting. The leaders and different individuals met to elect leaders, and begin to organize the leadership structure for the Adhamiya and Baghdad region.
Major Darryl Perry, with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry also attended the meeting. He will be serving as liaison and civil affairs officer for the citizen group and coalition forces.
Various committees are being established to deal with community concerns on the topics of security, essential services, arbitration, reconciliation, youth and sports activities, and education. Major Perry was in attendance and looks forward to working with the council and various committees.
Elected to the office of Vice Chairman were Abu Abid and Abdu Khadir. The meeting was also to agree upon committees and committee leaders. Elected chairman was Amar Amid Al Azawi. Both Al Azawi and Al Dulaimi are local Sheiks.
Abu Abid is a member of the Sons Of Iraq local concerned citizen group. He is also a Sol member. One of the offshoots of the former Concerned Local Citizen groups in the Baghdad area, Sol is a security volunteer group that helps conduct security patrols, man checkpoints, and identify and root out terrorists, explosives and weapons.
The committees are taking as an example the Anbar province groups, which have been working and functioning well. “This is another effort using traditions where Sheikh’s are in charge of democratic elected groups,” said Major Perry.
