Baghdad, Iraq-? Members of the MNF-Division Baghdad and other U.S. Soldiers recently had the pleasure of assisting in the rebuilding, renovation and reopening of a school located in Bakriyah, Iraq.
This is a school that has had cramped rooms, and huge over crowded classes for a long time. It is located in a heavily populated Baghdad neighborhood just next to an old horse racing track. The school was identified for assistance by members of the 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry division.
The school finally was completed and reopened its doors on January 4th, and it is in the Mansour district of Baghdad. There were a host of dignitaries on hand for the opening, but no one was more pleased than the hundreds of school children and their families that were on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony itself.
The new and renovated school features a new school building, with all modern features and plumbing, and it will increase the ability of students to relax and be able to learn. Children gathered in the courtyard of the school prior to the ceremony and sang patriotic songs, and listened to poetry read by older students to the enjoyment of the different distinguished guests.
