DAKAR, Senegal – August 31, 2015 — A U.S. Marine saved a Senegalese man from drowning last night near a busy restaurant.
At 8 p.m. Aug. 28, U.S. Marine Cpl. Matthew A. Sprankle saw a man struggling to keep his head above water about 150 meters from the shore, while eating at a local restaurant with a group of Marines.
After witnessing an unsuccessful rescue attempt from another Senegalese, Sprankle grabbed a flotation device and jumped from the pier and swam to his location.
Sprankle returned to shore with the Senegalese man. No medical attention was required for Sprankle or the man.
