Coalition Forces Support Iraqi Security Soldiers
Sometimes it is rewarding to do your job and accomplish all of your objectives. But occasionally it is especially satisfying to be able to accomplish your goals in a big way.
The United Kingdom members of the Coalition that serve in the Basra region were able to do just that recently, when their British Army heavy Artillery made quite a stir as they provided active defense of the Basra region.
The security has been on the upswing, and the need for heavy artillery gunfire has not been needed for some time. But recently, the heavy artillery of the British troops were re deployed to the Tallil area.
As they arrived, the area came under attack, and the heavy artillery sprung to action. While the weapons were packed and in transit, to prepare them to fire took seconds, and they returned fire toward the area that was shooting at Coalition and Iraqi Security Forces.
The heavy weaponry provided quite a show, the British Battery D, 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery took aim and fired their 155 mm heavy artillery cannon, which fires a particularly effective 96 lb self propelled projectile.

The firing caused quite a stir, as the weapons flash from firing the weapon is very spectacular. As the heavy gun was fired, the muzzle flash lit up the night sky, providing an almost fireworks type of display.
The NATO HL 15 projectile rounds were very effective and after about 10 minutes of firing, and about 13 or 14 rounds fired, the insurgency or enemy suddenly ceased firing, and the gun battle was over.
