Training Program Supports Iraq Police
A year ago there was widespread insurgent activity in the Kalsu region, and it was not safe for anyone, citizen or government alike. Now, the tide has turned, and the region is kept safe by the Iraqi Security Forces, much of which consists of the Iraqi National Police.
The Iraqi police has increased its effectiveness, but most of all it has been successful in finally earning the trust of the local population. Because of the trust that the community has gained, the Iraqi Security forces have been very successful.
Soldiers from the coalition, from the 153rd Military Police company has worked to train candidates into successful Iraqi policemen. Different members of the Iraqi Police have even returned to the coalition US Army and requested advanced training, to build on what they have already learned.
Some of the training has also benefited the community directly. Different members of the Iraqi community have become reliable sources of information, and they are often used as eyes and ears for the Iraqi Police force, leading to a large increase in the amount of weapons, and other materials that are uncovered in previously insurgent held hands.
There has been a marked increase in the amount of weapons caches that are being turned in, and much of this is simply due to the trust that the community has now in their own police.
