Rawah, Iraq – Many of the people of the village of Rawah, Iraq live a life of poverty, living in their small village and the neighboring oasis of Sagrah. Both are located in the Anbar province, in the West of Iraq.
The terrain is dry flat and cold, and they have a hospital, but no current emergency room. The Iraqi Security forces and the United States Military Coalition forces are greeted with friendly waves by the citizens as they patrol the different neighborhoods.
Recently the members of the United States military have worked hard to install a water canal that will be used to irrigate land for farming. It is expected to be able to service up to 815 hectares of land, and it will lead to a positive change in the lives of the citizens.
The Government of Iraq joined with Coalition forces to construct the 1,000 meter canal, where water comes from ten inch wide pipes to help irrigate and bring fresh water to the area. ?This new system will help the people in the region for many years,? said First Lieutenant Daniel Thomas, team leader for Civil Affairs Team 5, Regimental Combat Team 8.
