10th Field Artillery Given Weapons Discovered By Sons Of Iraq
The pace of surrendered and seized weapons is taking a huge leap forward, more and more weapons are being turned over to Coalition forces for destruction on a daily basis. Before the recent security and fighting success, there was not a lot of material that were being voluntarily turned over to U.S. and Coalition forces.
But with all of the positive changes, and peace, which has settled into the region, the amount of weapons being turned in has taken off. Another very large weapons stash was turned over to soldiers at Forward Operating Base Hammer this last week.
Members of the Sons of Iraq citizen militia group approached soldiers at FOB Hammer with some weapons they carried from a hidden secret cache, and then led soldiers back to the stash of illegal weapons. It was a sizable discovery, and the latest in a rash of turned over weapons in the past several weeks.
This brings to 13 the number of illegal weapons caches turned over to coalition soldiers at FOB Hammer since the start of the Sons Of Iraq program. The Sons of Iraq sprang out of local Concerned Local Citizens groups, or CLC for short, and has become a nationwide civilian Iraqi movement. It has chapters in nearly every province in Iraq, and is promising to be a positive ongoing group that will help with stability.

“The Sons of Iraq groups are fantastic, they have found and given us three weapons caches this last week alone,” said Specialist Andrew Watson. Watson is assigned to Battery A, of 10th Field Artillery operating out of FOB Hammer.
