Vehicles are the equipment that is the basics of any large organization. As an Air Force operations specialist dealing with vehicles you will deal with troop movements and convoy operations. You will work with supplies, munitions and transportation of military soldiers from place to place. You will learn to read maps, use compass readings, and how to navigate to determine passage and route areas. As an Air force Vehicle operations specialist you will be taught to operate vehicles of every different classification and size, and learn how to unload, service and maintain vehicles. You will be taught how to deal with record keeping, and basic maintenance of vehicles, and how to clean and perform maintenance on other types of equipment.
Working as an Air Force Specialist Vehicle operator you will work to operate vehicle convoys, and move munitions and to execute a number of different operations according to the mission at hand. The Air Force operates a number of support battalions that provide military convoy and transportation support; you will work with members of other Services in delivery and operations of both large and small vehicle convoys. You will receive assignments directly from a vehicle operations center, or a military dispatch center, and you may be required to work on a convoy traveling hundreds of miles. Participation in convoy operations and military movements, as well as different missions delivering materials, supplies and military equipment will be part of your job mission. As an Air Force Vehicle operations specialist you may work at a dispatch center and deal with both incoming and outgoing vehicles. Operations may include using hardware and computer equipment, to keep track of vehicles using routing, dispatching and keeping military vehicles headed in the correct direction at the correct date and time.
Basic Training for 9 weeks will equip you to advance to individual training at the Air Force Vehicle Operations school. You will progress to Fort Wood Missouri, and be trained in technical school in all different kinds of Air Force Motor pool operations. If you are skillful in dealing with people, and a good driver, you will have an advantage in this Air Force operations specialty. Skilled vehicle operations apprentices are always in demand so this can be a high quality specialty.
