Richmond, Virginia- The local members of the Virginia National Guard returned last weekend with their fellow soldiers, members of the 1710th Transportation Company, 329th Regional Support Group.
These are the citizen soldiers, many who joined the Virginia National Guard in the last couple of years to get training, and to partake in the excellent benefits that are available for members of the Army National Guard and Army Reserves.
There are bout 180 active members that returned to a heroes welcome on Sunday to Richmond, they have been on active duty since last year in May 2008. They are stationed at Camp
Atterbury in the Indiana for a temporary transition but then will be returning to Richmond.
They were a unit that served in Kuwait and Iraq, and were with the 142nd Combat Support battalion from Fort Polk, Louisana. They have earned a well deserved rest for their services on active duty, and will be in Richmond for the next several months training and resting, and on leave for many of the Servicemembers. They are the best example of the type of civilian citizen soldiers that have chosen to serve their country, and they are back, having rotated with an other unit.
