One of the things which the United States Navy is always having to work against is the sailors getting sick while on the job. This is because of the close confines they are having to work in constantly. It is also because of all of the different ports that the vessels dock in every year for resupply and for shore leave. It is the job of the Navy environmental health officer to try and keep everyone as healthy as possible.
One of the biggest parts of your job will be to identify any threats to the safety and well-being of the sailor on board. This can include everything from hazardous chemicals, toxins and germs. You will have to make sure that all sailors have been properly dosed with precautionary medicine so that they will not get sick while at port or while back on the ship.
