One of the benefits that are available and often overlooked is Work Study benefits available for Veterans. Work-study benefits are available for most people in federal financial student aid, but there is a specific type of work-study benefits that are available only for veterans. The Veterans Department reserves positions involving Work Study for people who are veterans. These positions are only offered to people who are legally veterans, which have at least 181 days of active duty service.
This program is available to people who have participated in any of the following programs:
-Servicemember dependants Educational Assistance Programs.
-Active Duty Montgomery GI Bill.
-Montgomery GI Reserve Bill.
-Veterans Vietnam Era Educational Assistance Programs.
The thing is, the amount and availability of these benefits are only there if a person applies. Many people do not even realize that this type of educational work-study is available for utilization. But it is work-study that cannot be completed by anyone other than a Veteran.
Veterans who are attending a college or professional/vocational program three quarter time or more can be eligible for this benefit. If you work in a work study role for the Veterans administration it can sometimes work to your benefit. The Veteran’s administration can in some cases award up to 40 percent of your semester Work study benefits ahead of time. Up to 40 percent of your contract for work-study can be given in advance, and when you reach the 40 percent point in your contract you will be paid every period of fifty hours that passes.
There are different factors that affect the VA in deciding candidates for Work Study Benefits. The highest priority is given to veterans who have service connected disabilities of 30 percent or more. There are also other priorities, but there tends to be more Work Study opportunities than candidates so qualifying for work study Veterans benefits
The Veterans work study program is set up to allow activities that are directly veterans related to be performed by work study students. Veterans Work Study program participants work on tasks in the Veterans program or programs located on campus, they do not work on tasks outside of the Veterans program. This is seen as an excellent supplementary program, one that is a win win situation for the participant and for the veterans department themselves.
