The United States Air Force is one of the best services to join; it is a very efficient and straightforward service in which to serve. There are specific benefits that will be available to you as soon as you graduate boot camp, and even while you are in your initial training for duty. As a member of the Air Force and as an enlisted person you will be eligible for a number of housing, food, pay, and other benefits. The Air Force has the same benefits as enlisted personnel in all of the Five United States Armed Forces, but many people are not aware of some of the finer points of enlisting in the Armed Forces.
If you are a young person, and want to get a great head start on life, and want to have excellent benefits, along with job training and a good salary, then joining the Military, and in particular the United States Air Force may be a job choice for you. Here are a few of the advantages that enlisting in the US Air Force offers: Food- One of the benefits to military service is that you have your ?room and board,? or in other words your upkeep including food paid for. Military food has gotten a huge improvement over the last twenty years, and it is good to excellent at most duty stations around the world. As an enlisted Airman in the Air Force you will receive a daily food allowance. If you are single, you can choose to receive instead ?rations in kind? and eat at the meal facility. You can eat up to four meals a day in this option, and it?s all free. If you are married and have dependents, then you can choose to eat with your spouse and family at home. Housing- Living in the military, you will receive a housing allowance, called a Basic allowance for Quarters. This can involve money to live off base, or in housing located on base. Or, you may live in barracks if you are a single person. You will receive an amount that covers living expenses, utilities, and maintenance. Housing is a tax-free benefit, not subject to state or federal taxes. Medical- As a member of the US Military, you will have all of your medical and dental bills paid for, and you will also have medical and dental coverage options for your spouse if married, and for all of your dependents. Insurance- One of the recent improvements that have been made is in the Servicemen?s Group Life Insurance, or SGLI. You can obtain life insurance through the military at a rate that is very hard to beat in the civilian world, as a Servicemember you can obtain up to 400,000 dollars of personal life insurance for a very low cost.
Salary-The salary is pretty good- after boot camp you will receive about $1500 dollars or so a month as an E-2 or E-3, and as you are in longer, and rise in rank the amount you make goes up. With the other benefits, the salary is very competitive.
